Ruby Ridge Ruby Does Park City

So, darlings, did you get a chance to see La Cage Aux Folles at the Egyptian Theater Company in Park City? I sincerely hope you did because it was a delightful production of one of my favorite musicals in one of my favorite little theaters, in one of my favorite locations. You know, petals, there is just something so liberating and cathartic about getting out of the Salt Lake Valley, having a nice pre-show nosh, wandering around Main Street, and catching a show in Park City. Talk about relieving some stress, oh my God, kittens, I could actually feel my blood pressure plummeting while I was window shopping, it was THAT relaxing!
Well I should say it was relaxing until car loads of theater goers recognized moi and felt compelled to shatter the tranquility of the moment by screaming, “Oh My God, it’s Ruby Ridge!!!” Precious ones, I am deeply touched for the recognition and adoration but you scared the living hell out of an elderly couple of Iowan tourists who happened to be walking beside me. By the terrified look on their shocked little faces they didn’t know if they were caught in a drive by, or if they had just celebrity spotted Reba Macintyre after a corn bread and chicken binge. Can’t you just hear them bragging to their friends at the Des Moines VFW now? “Well her hair looked fabulous but boy has she put on some weight!” What can I say darlings….God loves the simple ones!
I don’t know about you, kittens, but I keep forgetting that Park City is so close and so welcoming. I tend to take it for granted, sort of like people who live in Orange County that never go to Disneyland. It’s a shame because P.C. really is a nice town. I will go out on a limb and say it actually shines best during the off season when you don’t have to deal with the pretentious ski crowd or the mayhem and peripheral tackiness of the Sundance Film Festival.
Anyway, cupcakes, the reason for my Park City jaunt was to see our very own Kenny Wayne, who did a wonderful job as the flamboyant and touching Albin. Kenny performed as a Cyber Slut under the wonderfully tongue-in-cheek non de plume of “Iva Recommend.” We miss her energy and her wig teasing skills dearly, but it’s so gratifying to see one of our girls actually go legit. And I would be completely remiss if I didn’t mention Walter who played the role of Phaedra, one of Les Cagelles. Muffins, I have absolutely no objectivity when it comes to a seasoned pro like Walter because I just admire him so much. He is one of those really gifted performers who just grabs your attention and doesn’t let go, even if he’s buried in a chorus line. And although he will probably kick my butt for saying it…the old girl can still hoof her way and cartwheel across the stage like a kid half her age. Bravo baby!
So to review, chiclets, the moral of today’s lesson is this: Park City is close; the weather is cooler; the shopping is fun; the restaurants and clubs are friendly; and there’s no excuse to ever stay at home bored. Do yourself a favor and drag a few friends up the canyon and have a nice night out in Park City. Just don’t yell at me if I’m working a corner on Main Street O.K.? Ciao!
