Followers of Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church announced plans today to picket Heath Ledger's funeral because he "promoted homosexuality" by playing a gay man in Brokeback Mountain.
The Topeka, Kansas, based church is famous for picketing funerals of dead soldiers and gays, and in a statement said Ledger was a pervert that is now burning in hell.
"WBC will picket this pervert's funeral, in religiious protest and warning: 'Be not deceived; God is not mocked.'" The flyer states. "Heath Ledger thought it was great fun defying God Almighty and His plain word; to wit: God hates the sordid, tacky bucket of slime seasoned with vomit known as Brokeback Mountain and He hates all persons having anything whatsoever to do with it."
The flyer ends: "Heath Ledger is now in Hell, and has begun serving his eternal sentence there – beside which, nothing else about Heath Ledger is relevant or consequential."
The church was recently ordered to pay $11 million to the father of a slain U.S. soldier for picketing at his son's funeral.
There is no word on when and where Ledger's funeral will take place. There is speculation his body may be laid to rest in Australia, making it difficult for Westboro members to attend.
