PHOENIX — Evan Mecham, Arizona’s only governor to be impeached, died at his Arizona State home last Wednesday. Mecham received a lot of negative attention during his 16 months in office due to his racial comments and seeming insensitivity to the black community. And long before there were openly gay legislators, Ed Buck becam the first gay political activist in Arizona by leading a recall against Mecham. Mecham died at the age of 83.
