A man leaving the 14th Street Gym last night told Salt Lake City police that he was assaulted by a man who used an anti-gay epithet against him.
According to police, the man was waiting for a taxi cab outside the gym, when a man approached him from behind and “used a slur related to sexual orientation” before hitting him with a bottle. The suspect then fled the area.
The victim sustained cuts to the forehead and was bleeding profusely when officers arrived. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The gym, located at 1414 W. 200 South, is frequented by gay and bisexual men.
