Supporters of gay marriage plan to demonstrate in celebration or protest in Salt Lake City following the announcement of a ruling by a federal judge on California’s same-sex marriage ban.
Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker will issue his ruling Wednesday afternoon. The demonstration is planned for 8 p.m. at the Utah State Capitol Building.
Pride In Utah organizer Eric Ethington announced the rally on his Facebook wall earlier today.
The website for Marriage Equality USA also shows rallies throughout California.
The County Clerk’s office in Martinez, Calif. is where Walker’s verdict will come in over a lawsuit brought by two same-sex couples who are seeking to overturn Proposition 8. Voters approved the proposition, which outlawed same-sex marriage, five months after the state Supreme Court legalized it.
The Associated Press says that both sides have said an appeal was certain if Walker did not rule in their favor. The case would go first to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals then the Supreme Court if the high court justices agree to review it.
