DADT Vote Next Week

According to The Washington Blade, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is planning to schedule a vote next week on the 2011 defense budget bill that contains language that would repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

The paper reported that an anonymous senior Democratic leadership aide said Reid met with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Monday, informing him the fiscal year 2011 defense authorization bill will come to the Senate floor the week of Sept. 20.

Republicans have threatened to block the bill from coming to the floor, so 60 votes will be needed to end a filibuster and move forward with debate on the bill.

“We are going to take it the floor next week to see where the votes are,” the aide told the Blade.
