President Obama made history by appointing the first male, and openly-gay male, to be his social secretary on Friday.
Jeremy Bernard will leave his current post at the U.S. Embassy in Paris to join the White House staff. He is replacing Julianna Smoot. Bernard is a Texas native, but he worked in the financial industry in California. During the 2008 campaign Bernard served as a consultant to the Obama campaign.
Bernard previously served as the White House liaison to the National Endowment for the Humanities. In his role he’ll coordinate state dinners and other White House events.
