A guest editorial and rebuttal from a QSaltLake columnist printed in the latest edition has sparked a public debate. On Monday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. political activist and QSaltLake contributing writer Bob Henline will be debating Pastor Dave Mallinak of the Berean Baptist Church at the Ogden Library. Darcy Goddard, Legal Director of the ACLU, will be moderating the debate.
The original editorial and column rebuttal centered around two proposed Ogden anti-discrimination ordinances. The city council will consider on Tuesday night whether to pass the ordinances.
“We’re going to try and stick to the main topic of the ordinances,” Henline said. “But Pastor Mallinak indicated he may not be able to discuss the ordinances without straying to religion and morality.”
Henline will be defending the ordinances and advocating that the city pass the measures to protect against bias based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Pastor Mallinak opposes the ordinances and said that the ordinances would impose on his right to freedom of religion.
After the debate, the two participants will open up time for questions from the audience.
