Margie Phelps, daughter of Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church (which runs the GodHatesFags.com website) had announced plans to picket the funeral over her AIDS-advocacy work and her multiple marriages.
“No RIP Elizabeth Taylor who spent her life in adultery and enabling proud fags,” Phelps tweeted. “They cuss her in hell today. #Westboro will picket funeral!”
Church follower Steve Drain created a computer graphic with Taylor’s face surrounded by Fag Hag in Hell.
Jarrett Barrios, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation appeared on E! News to denounce the planned picket.
“Fred Phelps and his vitriolic anti-gay followers are simply trying to exploit their so-called ‘faith’ by spreading messages of hate at a time when Americans are grieving the loss of an extraordinary woman, actress and advocate,” he said.
