As summer is heating up, the parties will be going from Prides across the country to local backyard BBQs. QSaltLake is joining in on the fun with the seventh annual Q Lagoon Day and the second annual Q Day at the Park Silly Market. Attracting crowds of thousands, these events are some of the biggest and best parties of the year.

The Q Lagoon Day will be held Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. People attending the event are asked to wear red to show solidarity with the group. The event has been growing exponentially since it began, and last year it attracted more than 2,500 attendees. This year’s attendance is expected to be bigger and better than ever.

Lagoon Day is designed as an opportunity to gather as a group and just have an enjoyable day, said Michael Aaron, the QSaltLake publisher.

“It’s a day when we can go with a large group and let our hair down a little bit and be a bit more honest with ourselves,” Aaron said. “I love Lagoon and I like going and being surrounded by my people. And I don’t think I’m the only one.”

Discount tickets are not yet available, but QSaltLake will soon release the tickets for a discounted admission. They will be available at a variety of locations throughout the valley. We will also be hosting a terrace and will have a group picture. More details will be released as they are made available. However, as with other similar gay days at theme parks, such as Disneyland, Lagoon does not support or sponsor the day. It is merely a host location.

Q Day at the Park Silly Market will be held on Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join us as we paint the town pink and sponsor the weekly farmers market.

In cooperation with the market, the award-winning and fabulous queen, Nova Starr and her crew will host an interactive performance with sequins, wigs and audience participation.

“We are so excited to participate and be a part of the events,” Nova Starr said.

QSaltLake’s own chef and restaurant reviewer, Chef Drew Ellsworth, will be demonstrating one of his tasty recipes. Last summer’s demonstration was packed with people and this year’s show is going to be even bigger.

The Park Silly Market is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main Street in Park City. The first market this year will be held on June 12.
