The California Supreme Court will today hear arguments on the question of California state law that arose during the federal challenge to Proposition 8 — the 2008 ballot measure that stripped the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in California, according to Kate Kendell, executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

The Court was asked by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to determine whether California law allows the sponsors of Prop 8 to force an appeal in Perry v. Brown. The office of the California Attorney General decided not to challenge Judge Vaughn R. Walker’s ruling that Prop 8 is unconstitutional.

NCLR and Equality California will be providing legal analysis of the case during the hearing, which begins at 10 a.m. PST. Those interested can follow Kendell on Twitter at @KateKendell and @NCLRights.
