An interfaith candlelight prayer vigil and equality walk supporting love and safety for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, age or sex will be held at Liberty Park this Friday evening, 8-10 p.m. The event comes on the heels of a recent attack on a young gay man in Salt Lake City, and members of all faiths, creeds and belief systems are invited to attend.
The event is sponsored by the City of Hope congregation, a queer-inclusive church based in Salt Lake City. From 8-9 p.m. at Liberty Park, 1300 South 700 East, speakers will share poems, prayers and thoughts. Everyone is also invited to participate in sharing. After the sharing, participants will walk together in solidarity through the city.
“While the group walks, songs will be sung, prayers will be prayed and images of Dane Hall’s injuries will be shown to make the public aware of why we, as a community, desperately need to walk into the light of a world free from hate,” the Facbook event page describes.
Alan Bounville, who is walking across the country to raise awareness for equality will also be at the event and participate in the walk.
