Pride Center to host event exploring Japanese influence on sexual culture
The Utah Pride Center will host an event exploring Japanese influence on sexual culture on Jan. 30, 6:30 p.m. The event, Pink Japan: Contemporary Sex Culture, will be held at the Center, 361 N. 300 West, Salt Lake City and cost is $10 a person.
From cuisine, music and fashion to technology and anime, Japan’s cultural influence on the West is immense. In many ways the Japanese erotic culture also influence today’s Western tastes. Yet, the daily realities of Japan’s sexual habits, sexual consumer culture, gender relations and sensual subcultures remain hidden, creating an aura of mystique. In this funny and insightful presentation, join Midori for a double-expatriate’s personal tour of Japan’s hidden sexual culture.
Arrive early to browse through her collection of naughty magazines, rare books, unusual flyers and other goodies from Japan. Midori is a Kyoto born, Tokyo-raised, Japanese-American author and sex educator based in San Francisco.
“Midori’s Pink Japan presentation was a perfect fit for the Center for Sex & Culture: full of detailed information about sexuality in contemporary Japan that we wouldn’t get anywhere else, through the unique lens of Midori’s own interests, expertise and bi-cultural history. It’s an engaging and informational show,” said Carol Queen, director of Center for Sex & Culture.
