‘What Would You Do?’ tests Utah County’s acceptance of gays

The popular ABC TV show What Would You Do? made a stop in Utah County and tested the acceptance of gays in one of the most conservative areas in the nation. The show planted two actors, a boy coming out to his father, who reacts very poorly to the situation, at a popular lunch spot.

The restaurant is cordoned with cameras everywhere and films the diners’ reactions. Some suggest that the boy be put into Evergreen, an organization for Mormons who want to change their sexuality. Others, however, react positively and suggest the father simply love and accept his son.

The full episode also explores how Utahns react when a father is not accepting of his daughter’s black boyfriend, a young man just finding out his fiancé is not a virgin.
