Former American Idol contestant, Utah native and friend to the local gay community, Megan Joy, has released her debut self-titled album on iTunes. The nine-track album was recorded with producer Matthew Einegar and husband Quinn Allman, the guitarist for The Used.

Joy took to the internet and successfully launched a crowd-funded Kickstarter campaign with the support of her loyal fans to get her album off the ground.

“I didn’t need to sign a record contract to sing and share my music with the world, I figured out I could do it myself, and that’s what I’m doing,” said Joy.

The album showcases Joy’s sultry and powerful voice with powerful ballads and rousing lyrics.

“I was so lucky to work with my husband and dear friend to finalize and decorate each song the way I imagined,” said Joy. “’Longing’ is my favorite song on the album because of the writing experience with Dave Litchens and Brit Burton, for the first time I felt very free in the vocal booth and the song truly became my own.”

Joy is working on the release of her second album with dates to follow.

The album is available for download on iTunes.
