Listen to this articleMore than 3,000 people shucked off their clothing and ran through the streets of Salt Lake City setting a world record for the most people in their underwear at one time. The new record, certified by the Guinness Book of World Records, of 3,316 beat last year’s inaugural run and record of 2,270 runners. Prior to that run, the record was a measly 550 and was set in England.
The run is held to show that not all Utahns fit into the categories of teetotalers and conservatives, said Undie Run organizer Nate Porter. This year’s event showed off many in costumes and others with body paint that pushed for various causes, including the legalization of weed and gay marriage.
“We wanted everyone to know that not everyone who lives here supports Prop. 8 and crazy liquor laws,” Porter said. “It was a protest against being uptight.”
