Voters in Maryland approved the state’s same-sex marriage law, according to early returns. After losing at the ballot box in more than 30 states, marriage equality will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2013.
Maryland will join seven other states and Washington, D.C. in legalizing same-sex marriages.
