Still no word from Supreme Court on DOMA, Prop 8

The U.S. Supreme Court docket, released today, shows that the five cases related to gay and lesbian marriage have been rescheduled for a conference Friday. Eight challenges to the federal Defense of Marriage Act, a similar Arizona law and California’s Proposition 8 were considered during the high court’s closed conference last Friday.

“It is important to remember that that the Supreme Court often takes more than one Conference to consider whether to grant review in certain cases,” says the American Foundation for Equal Rights in a statement. “Here at AFER, we remain optimistic that the Justices will soon act in our case, either agreeing to hear our arguments or allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry in California, but we must also be prepared to stay vigilant into the New Year for a final determination from the Court.”
