Utah Pride entertainment includes drag stars, disco diva, others

The Utah Pride Festival entertainment lineup for 2013 includes Glee’s Alex Newell, RuPaul’s Drag Race alums Pandora Boxx and Ivy Winters and disco diva Thelma Houston. The Pride Parade grand marshal is openly gay soccer player David Testo.

Alex Newell
Newell was featured on Lifetime’s reality TV show The Glee Project where he came in second place. He appeared on Glee for two episodes in season three as the transgender character Wade / Unique Adams. His character was added to the cast for season four.



Pandora Boxx and Ivy Winters
Pandora Boxx was featured in season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race, along with the all-star season. Ivy Winters was featured in season five, which is currently airing. The show won a Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation award in 2009 and a Critics’ Choice Award in 2012.








Thelma Houston

Houston has released 18 albums and won a Grammy for Best Female Performance for her version of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes’ Don’t Leave Me This Way. Houston has made appearances on reality television shows such as American Idol and America’s Got Talent.




David Testo
Testo has played professional soccer for more than 10 years. He was the first professional soccer player in North America to publicly announce he is gay. He’s also the first openly gay man to be elected to the U.S. Soccer Athletic Council. He’s still an advocate for gay rights and awareness in sports.
