Bakery that refused lesbian wedding cake closes storefront

Listen to this article

Sweet Cakes by Melissa, the Oregon bakery that garnered national attention in January for refusing to bake a cake for a lesbian couple’s wedding, has closed its doors, effective August 31st.

According to shop owner Aaron Klein the closure is due to negative publicity and the reaction of the LGBT community.

“The LGBT attacks are the reason we are shutting down the shop.  They have killed our business through mob tactics.”

According to an entry on the shop’s Facebook page Aaron and Melissa Klein intend to moving their business into an “in home bakery” and will publish their new number soon.

The Kleins argued that they refused to bake the wedding cake on the basis of their religious views and that it was “definitely not discrimination at all.”  She continued, “We don’t have anything against lesbians or homosexuals.  It has to do with our morals and beliefs.”

The shop is currently under investigation by the state of Oregon based upon a discrimination complaint filed by the couple who were refused service.

  1. I'm against gay marriage because a legal marriage as far as I'm concerned and I know that this is not politically correct, is a union between a man and a woman.
