I grew up surrounded by a family who instilled the importance of making the world we live in a better place than we found it. I’m a native of Nebraska and moved to Utah in 1997 to work for the University of Utah as a Director of Managed Care Development. I was immediately taken by the beauty of the outdoors, the work ethic of the people and the family oriented values that encompassed me.
From an early age, I had the chance to engage myself in opportunities which helped better my community by sitting on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board while I was still in high school. I took on a range of leadership roles in a variety of organizations including the Business & Professional Women’s Organization, United Way and the Women’s Commission. I value the time others took with me throughout my youth and easily found time to volunteer to coach youth soccer when I was asked. I appreciate the young energy as I pass by a soccer field full of kids or families gathered for a weekend picnic and understand the value of maintaining Ogden’s parks and green spaces.
After I earned a bachelor degree in Industrial & Management Systems Engineering and a Master Degree in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska, I worked at a local hospital as a Management Engineer. It was my education which honed my skills I still use today. I am a process oriented, data driven person which helps me make solution based decisions. I am so excited to live in a community where post-secondary education thrives with Weber State University, Ogden Weber Tech College and the many other on-line and specialty colleges. I am passionate about the science, technology, engineering and math fields and volunteered my time as a workshop leader for the Expanding Your Horizons conference.
I am currently working as a healthcare consultant. Prior to consulting I developed, owned and sold a successful practice management and medical billing company. I take an active role in the Ogden community with its multitude art, music or sporting events, either participating, attending or volunteering. I have enjoyed volunteering and supporting the GOAL foundation, The Tour of Utah Cycling events and the XTERRA events. As a small business owner, I find it extremely important to be involved with the business community and a member of the Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce and I actively participate on the Chamber’s Legislative Committee. I am extremely proud to showcase Ogden to people from other states and countries through the multitude of recreation events, art and film events and religious conferences available to our community.
For the 16+ years I have been in Utah I have found it very important to be active within my community. I have been asked to serve on various local and statewide boards. I am grateful to have participated with many different leadership programs throughout my career including Leadership Utah and Moving Beyond Boundaries. I understand the value of giving time to my community in which I work in, live in and play in.
I happily reside in Ogden with my partner of 18 years Nancy Knape, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
