Cache County Clerk closes doors rather than issue marriage certificates

Listen to this article

Cache County Attorney James Swink issued a statement declaring the Cache County Clerk’s office “closed until further notice” in order to sort out legal issues surrounding District Judge Robert Shelby’s Friday ruling that Utah’s anti-gay marriage laws and constitutional amendment violated the U.S. Constitution.

A dozen or so couples had begun lining up outside the office doors at 6:30 in the morning in hopes of getting married.

A call to the County Clerk’s office was not answered when this story was published.
