Couples are suing Utah County for not issuing same-sex marriage licenses

Utah couples are filing suit against Utah County for refusing to issue marriage licenses because they are a same-sex couple, even though U.S. District Judge Robert Shelby ruled last Friday that Utah laws and constitutional amendment violate the U.S. Constitution.

Naming Utah County Clerk/Auditor Bryan Thompson, the suit says they were denied their valid request for a marriage license, that it was a violation of their civil and Constitutional rights, that Thompson was intentionally inflicting emotional distress and was negligently inflicting emotional distress.

The suit does not state what awards the plaintiffs seek, saying that should be determined at trial, but also seeks attorneys’ fees.
