Love Elevated — a reception to celebrate Utah’s same-sex marriages

Listen to this article

NOW, MORE THAN EVER, WE MUST CELEBRATE THE MARRIAGES THAT HAPPENED FOR 2 WEEKS IN UTAH AND RAISE FUNDS TO FIGHT THE STATE. This event is on!

Same-sex couples dropped everything and ran to their county clerks’ offices when they heard that District Judge Robert Shelby ruled that Utah’s Amendment 3 and other anti-gay marriage laws were unconstitutional. They all knew that the window of opportunity would be short, but they weren’t sure if that meant hours, days or weeks.

Many ran to get licenses and get married in work uniforms, hoodies, and sweat pants, worried that even the time it took to run home and change could be the difference between getting married and not.

QSaltLake, along with Le Croissant Catering, X96 and UtahGayWeddings.com, decided the couples deserved a great wedding reception. And, they decided that all proceeds would benefit Restore Our Humanity, the organization that pushed the case through the courts and got the ruling.

The party will be held at The Rail Event Center on Saturday, January 11, no matter what Gov. Gary Herbert says.

Music by DJ Dennis Rowley, DJPauly Entertainment, Lady Murasaki, and Otter Creek Duo. Opening prayer and The Gaylywed Game by Sister Dottie Dixon. Champagne toast by QSaltLake publisher Michael Aaron, some of the legal team and plaintiffs and the first married same-sex couple in Utah. Photographers will be roaming to snap shots of the happy couples and their admirers. The Matrons of Mayhem and the Bud Boys and Bud Girls will be on-hand for photos as well.

This is a catered event with a cash bar. Dress is “smart casual.” All ages are welcome. 21 and over only on the second floor.

All proceeds benefit Restore Our Humanity — the group that made gay marriage in Utah possible. The state of Utah says it will spend $2 million to stop gay marriage in the higher courts. It makes sense we will need to raise that kind of money to keep them from doing so.

Suggested donation $10 per person/$5 for those under 12. $20pp gets you admission and a copy of the glossy, commemorative special edition of QSaltLake, published special for this event. $50pp VIP includes seating in the VIP section, VIP entrance to skip the line, valet parking, VIP bartender, and the special edition of QSaltLake.

Tickets available now at http://qtix.us. Those who cannot attend, but would like to donate, can do so directly to Restore Our Humanity here.

Newly-married couples, please bring a photocopy of your marriage certificate for special entrance, bypassing the line, and SWAG bag (to the first hundred couples through the doors). We are asking the same donation from newlyweds.

Let’s party and celebrate over 1000 same-sex married couples in the state!
