Biskupski sign defaced with swastika

A supporter of Jackie Biskupski’s campaign for mayor of Salt Lake City woke up this morning to find that the yard sign he placed had a large swastika painted over it.

“I woke up this morning and found this bright pink swastika painted all across the front,” Will Carlson told KSL News Radio.

Carlson is unsure whether the act was targeted against him, as an openly gay man, Biskupski, a lesbian, or random graffiti drawn by a kid that had no understanding of the relevance.

During the reign of the Nazis in Germany in the 1930s and 40s, an estimated 100,000 men were arrested as homosexuals, of whom some 50,000 were officially sentenced. Between 5,000 and 15,000 of those sentenced were incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps. The men were forced to wear pink triangles to designate them as gay.

Biskupski said that the incident shows that LGBT Utahns have a long way to go before being treated as equal.
