ROLES:

DEV (Early 30s) – Everything about him says comb over. He’s a bit of a nerd and perhaps a little pudgy. He’s in love with “Mash” who does not love him back; yet he remains eternally optimistic. He doesn’t always follow the conversation but it doesn’t matter because few are listening to him anyway. (The ability to sing and also play the ukulele or guitar or other instruments a plus.)

EMMA (Late 40s – Early 50s) – A star of the stage and screen but she never made it to the “A” list, except in her own mind. Botox, eye jobs and dye have kept her younger looking, but she’s past her prime.  She had her son “Con” when she was way too young and regrets it. She is rather egotistical but can be the life of the party. (The part calls for her to appear in a slip, but no nudity.)

CON (Late 20s) – A passionate, jealous man who has an immense energy. He’s verbose, handsome, alcoholic and intensely interesting. He is wildly in love with “Nina” who will never love him back. He wants to be a writer but is well aware of his limitations. He occasionally leans towards greatness and madness.

MASH (20s) – An acrimonious woman who is bitterly in love with “Con” who will never love her back. She’s had a hard life, lots of manual labor, many disappointments, but she knows how to fight back and often does. (She can sing while she picks out a tune on a ukulele or a guitar or another instrument.) (Tattoos a plus!)

NINA (Mid 20s) An ingénue. Kind, pretty, sexy and flirtatious. She falls in love with any man who can advance her career. She wants to be an actor but lacks the talent needed to succeed and somewhere in her soul she knows it. (The part calls for her to undress on stage appearing briefly in a bra and panties, and to seduce “Trig” while wearing a revealing pajama top unbuttoned in the front, but no nudity.)

TRIG (50s) – A famous writer. He’s self-centered and passionate. He takes his status for granted. His adoring fans have fed his ego and his many love affairs his appetite for life. He suffers few consequences for his actions. He likes who he is. (The part calls for a brief scene in boxer shorts and t-shirt, but no nudity).

SORN (Late 50s) – A medical doctor who has watched life go by without much comment. He’s intellectual but unable to take action. He loves his sister “Emma” but doesn’t know why. He’s an amiable leaf floating in the cosmos, he will not be missed when he’s gone and he knows it.
