Obituary: Benjamin David Holdaway

June 18, 1984 – March 28, 2019

On Thursday, March 28th, Benjamin David Holdaway passed away. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He had a personality that was larger than life and he brought humor and enthusiasm to every gathering.

Ben was born in Logan on June 18th, 1984, and graduated from Logan High where he enjoyed participating in sports, debate, drama, musicals, and student government. He was selected as a Sterling Scholar in Speech and Drama and enjoyed his years as a Student Body Officer and Senior Class President.

Ben attended and graduated for U of U with degrees in biology and Spanish. During school and after his graduation, Ben had the opportunity to work in a variety of areas. He enjoyed spending a year teaching English in Spain. He also worked as a phlebotomist, researcher, newspaper editor, hotel receptionist/event planner, waiter, and as a Prevention Coordinator for the Utah AIDS Foundation.

Most recently, Ben was attending the U of U Nursing Program. This opportunity was a pathway to many goals he had wanted to achieve for much of his life. In these varied positions, one thing was always the same: Ben connected with people and brought his enthusiasm and passion for doing things to the best of his ability.

Ben was born with endearing dimples. He used them to spread happiness. He enjoyed talking, laughing, biking, dancing, traveling, building furniture, art projects, making videos, event planning, educating, fundraising, and using his creativity to make things great. He loved to play all types of games and was an avid reader. Ben was not afraid to try new things and was often picking up new hobbies and developing new talents.

Ben brought energy and passion everywhere he went. His presence at family gatherings made everything so much fun. He was a natural leader and entertainer with a contagious laugh and smile. Our family Lake Powell trips with Ben have been filled with special memories. In our family when it comes to making family music videos, being an emcee for one of our activities, performing for extemporaneous talent shows, or for organizing all things fun, Ben was it. We love him and will miss him more than words can say.

Ben is survived by his parents, Don and Barbara Holdaway of Logan, siblings, Heather (Michael) Thatcher, Todd Holdaway, Junior (Arlene) Pinto, Heidi (Jason) Parker, Kim (Cameron) Christensen, Mindy (Mark) Nordstrom, and 16 nieces and nephews who adore him. Ben was preceded in death by his sister, Kristen.

We offer our sincere gratitude for all who have shown love and kindness to Ben throughout his life.
