Help sought for Princess Kennedy after a scooter accident
UPDATES:
From Justin Strange on his GoFundMe: “We just talked to the doctor and Kennedy is scheduled for surgery at 1 pm. She is getting major reconstructive facial surgery. Most of the bones in her face have been crushed, including her cheekbones, forehead, chin and her skull has been fractured. She does have blood on the brain so the doctors are keeping her in the ICU after surgery for recovery because there is a possibility of a decline in health.” Doctors are asking everyone to please refrain from visiting until after her recovery.
Jordan L’Moore, on their GoFundMe, noted that they talked to Kennedy’s mother, who told them, “the swelling on the brain went down overnight” and “there is no brain damage.”
The two funds total just about $22,000 as of 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Original Story:
Princess Kennedy, who calls herself Salt Lake City’s favorite tranny and has worked for years offering haircuts to homeless youth, was involved in a scooter accident which, according to her Facebook page and a GoFundMe, will require brain surgery. The fundraising site hopes to raise money for “impending medical bills and recovery time.”
“I shattered my face and will be having brain surgery later,” Kennedy wrote on Facebook. “Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers.”
“Princess Kennedy has been in a serious accident, which has resulted in significant fractures of the head and face. Facial reconstruction and brain surgery are needed,” Justin Strange writes on one of two GoFundMe pages raising money for her. “A broken jaw means she’ll need to have her jaw wired shut, broken sinuses mean she’ll have to have a tracheotomy and feeding tube, which will require in-home care post-op.”
Strange says that Kennedy is currently in the Intensive Care Unit, and has no insurance.
“She will get the medical care she needs, but she must have help to cover the costs. It is going to be very expensive,” Strange wrote. “PK has been tireless in her efforts to serve underprivileged communities in SLC and elsewhere. Please help in any way you can.”
“Sadly, America being the only developed country in the world without universal healthcare brings us to this platform to hopefully raise enough dough to get our girl through this,” GoFundMe organizer Jordan L’Moore wrote. “Please help Kennedy! If you know her you know how much she’s helped people in need over the years with Project Connect haircuts for the homeless, and so many other ways.”
Kennedy has written for several local publications, including QSaltLake Magazine. She also runs an alternative event on Exchange Place during Utah Pride.
