Pete Buttigieg coming to Salt Lake Monday

As Super Tuesday approaches, presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg will be in Salt Lake City for a town hall on Monday, February 17th.

Beginning Monday, the Buttigieg campaign will have two paid staffers in Utah. The campaign already has around 2,000 volunteers who have been going door-to-door and running phone banks for the mayor for months.

March 3 will be the first time Utah has counted itself among the 14 states taking part in Super Tuesday, the largest and most significant single day of voting for the 2020 presidential election.

In 2016 Utah went to a caucus system to decide which presidential candidates earned Utah’s delegates, which ended up with hours-long lines at gatherings in high school gyms.

This year the state will spend $3 million to run a ballot vote. Ballots have already been mailed to voters affiliated with a political party. In Utah, only the Republican Party requires a voter to be registered before voting. Those wanting a Democratic ballot have until Feb. 25 to request one to be sent by mail.

All eligible voters may vote in the County Clerk’s Office at the Salt Lake County Government Center, 2001 S. State Street, South Building, Room 200, weekdays Feb. 18 – March 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Beginning Feb. 18, early voting will take place at seven locations across Salt Lake County:

  • Draper City Hall, 1020 E Pioneer Rd (12400 S), Draper
  • Murray City Hall 5025 S State St, Murray
  • Riverton Senior Center 12914 S Redwood Rd (1700 W), Riverton
  • Sandy Senior Center 9310 S 1300 E, Sandy
  • Trolley Square 600 S 700 E, Salt Lake City
  • West Jordan Library (Viridian) 8030 S 1825 W, West Jordan
  • West Valley City Hall 3600 S Constitution Blvd (2700 W), West Valley City

Unaffiliated Voters may affiliate at Vote Centers during polling hours. They will be offered an affiliation form to sign. Voters affiliated with other political parties may not change their affiliation at Vote Centers.

On Tuesday, March 3, dozens of voting centers around the state will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Salt Lake County locations are listed here. Locations throughout the state can be found at vote.utah.gov

The Buttigieg town hall doors open at 7 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public. The location will be shared with guests who RSVP before the event here.
