Under the Umbrella Bookstore is ecstatic celebrating its second anniversary and announced the opening of their new Umbrella Cafe.
“After months of dust, construction, and anticipation, our in-store Umbrella Cafe is open to customers looking for a queer space to sit and sip,” owners wrote in a statement. “Just like in the store, Umbrella Cafe prioritizes queer-owned businesses to source its cafe offerings. The cafe invites you to come give food and drink a try.”
The grand opening will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. A few lucky early birds can get a gift card to the store, and free drip coffee tastings are available for all who drop in.
Umbrella Cafe will serve up LGBTQ-owned local products, including Sweet Hazel & Co., Hans Kombucha, and SLC Underground Sweets. Other queer sources include Queer Wave Coffee, Apostate Coffee, PARU Matcha, Sis Got Tea, Pink House Alchemy syrups and Bee Wild honey.
Up-to-date cafe operating hours and menu can be found on the Umbrella Cafe Instagram @umbrellacafeslc.
To commemorate the anniversary and opening, the bookstore will also be holding a weekend birthday bash and supporting member drive in appreciation of supporters of the shop so far, and to rally excitement for the future of the bookstore. This will also coincide with the November Queer Makers’ pop-up.
The pop-up will take place Saturday, Nov. 18 from noon to 5 p.m.
Under the Umbrella is Utah’s only queer bookstore, sharing and celebrating queer books written by queer authors and offering a safe, sober, and accessible space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people to gather.
