UPC hosts a bimonthly discussion on trans vocal training

A bimonthly session on learning to control the voice you project will be hosted at the Utah Pride Center. While focused on the transgender community, anyone with a desire to train their voice to be something other than what they present today is welcome.

Roger Cox, owner of Utah Vocal Studio, is a vocologist and certified peer support specialist who will lead the discussions.

“We’ll talk about strategies to design your sound,” Cox said. “I hope to facilitate conversations about our voices. Myths about our voices sometimes lead us to believe that we are stuck or incapable of sounding different. With some training, those of us with voices can craft the sound that comes out of our faces.”

Cox says these conversations can dispel myths, build confidence, reveal choices and options, and encourage exploration aside from medical interventions, which can be costly or simply unavailable.

“I would love to help you explore the spectrum of ways you can connect to your true voice, whether you’re speaking or singing,” Cox said.

The one-hour sessions will be held on the first and third Thursdays of the month, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Utah Pride Center, 68 S Main St., Salt Lake City. Free 2-hour parking is available at the City Creek parking plaza.
