Drag Battles: Chappell Vs. Taylor – The Ultimate Showdown
Get ready to be SHOOK!
The Drag Collective presents its first event — “Drag Battles: Chappell Vs. Taylor” — where eight of the fiercest entertainers from Utah and Idaho will go head-to-head in an epic lip sync showdown. Only one can emerge victorious, but who will rise to the occasion? Are you Team Chappell or Team Taylor?
“When creating The Drag Collective, it was an absolute priority to cast diverse entertainers,” said co-founder and CEO Kaleb Claypool. “Our cast includes a majority of BIPOC, King, Gender Neutral, and under-21 performers who don’t always get the opportunities they deserve.”
This event is more than just a competition — it’s a celebration of The Drag Collective’s mission and vision. Dedicated to transforming the landscape of drag entertainment production and representation, TDC seeks to provide equitable opportunities for drag entertainers and focus on economic, social, and moral challenges commonly found in the industry. Their commitment to equity and authenticity hopes to empower drag artists and elevate their voices on stages locally and beyond.
Claypool says the best part is that the crowd will decide the winner. Audience voting will determine which entertainer takes home the crown.
Scarlett Kiss and Tara Lipsyncki will host the event, which will feature battles by Divina 2.0, Tzu, Tauri Zodiac, Erin Judgement, Giovanni Velvet Riley, Wanda Woman, Gothicka Graves, and White Chocolate. DJ Justin Hollister will provide the beats.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the United Drag Alliance, a nonprofit organization with the mission to provide education, health, and housing resources to those most in need inside our community through the art form of drag. Through programming like Bes-TEAS, Drag Story Hour: Intermountain West, drag brunches, bingo events, and other fundraisers, they raise funds and collect donations to reallocate back into the community. They also collect funds through their thrift and donation sections housed inside Mosaics: Community Bookstore & Venue in Provo, UT.
Mark your calendars for Friday, August 30, at The Depot, 14 N 400 W, Salt Lake City. This 18+ event promises a night of dazzling performances and fierce battles, showcasing the power and talent of Chappell and Taylor’s dedicated fans.
Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show kicks off at 9 p.m. Remember to bring your ID and plenty of $1 bills for tipping your favorite performers.
