Red Butte Garden’s ‘Blooming with Pride’ set for June 12

A burst of color, creativity, and community will return to Red Butte Garden and Arboretum this June as the botanical landmark hosts its third annual Blooming with Pride celebration.

Set for Friday, June 12, from noon to 7 p.m., the event invites guests to spend the day immersed in nature while celebrating LGBTQIA+ identity, creativity, and connection. Timed-entry tickets are on sale now, with free admission for Garden members (registration required) and regular admission pricing for the public.

This year’s theme, “Rooted Together,” compares thriving ecosystems and resilient communities. Organizers say the concept comes to life through a centerpiece Pride Garden Showcase: an open-air gallery of living floral installations created by local artists, florists, and horticulturists across the Garden’s grounds.

Featured artists and installations include Ryan Ferre’s Held, Becoming: Rooted in Support, Growth, and Connection in the Rose Garden; Becca Johnson’s Entrenched, a botanically inspired dance collective performing in the Orangerie; Sam Moreno’s Woven As One near the Visitor Center; Kat Nix, whose work will be located in the Fragrance Garden; WanderBlossom Co.’s Remedy at the Water Pavilion; brandee watters’ As Soft As Earth at Martin Overlook; and Mel Wise’s Beyond Blood: A Propagated Family Tree in the Herb Garden. A collaborative installation by Red Butte Garden staff will also be featured on the Lower Garden Lawn.

Beyond the installations, Blooming with Pride offers a full slate of interactive, family-friendly programming. Guests can take part in hands-on crafts and nature-based activities, contribute to a collaborative community art project that will grow throughout the day, and explore a self-guided nature walk highlighting plants that thrive together, echoing the event’s central message.

The Garden’s Courtyard will transform into a “Unity Hub,” bringing together LGBTQ+ organizations, local businesses, and community groups from across Utah. The space is designed to connect attendees with resources, showcase ongoing community work, and offer opportunities for involvement in a welcoming setting.

As one of the largest botanical gardens in the Intermountain West, Red Butte Garden spans more than 100 acres and serves as a center for conservation, education, and cultural programming. Blooming with Pride has quickly established itself as a signature regional event, blending environmental appreciation with a celebration of queer identity and community.
