Sun Trapp regains liquor license, reopening time unsure

The Sun Trapp has been granted a bar license once again. The Utah liquor commission approved the license at their monthly meeting on Thursday. Owners say they will announce an opening date soon.

The Sun Trapp, located at 102 S. 600 West and famous for its long history in the location and the mirrored cowboy boot disco ball, is projected to reopen today after being closed since January. The bar had faced potential closure for the past two years.

In March, Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services spokesperson Michelle Schmitt informed QSaltLake that the department had begun investigating whether The Sun Trapp was meeting its statutory obligations, including whether it had been closed for too long to retain its liquor license. During this process, The Sun Trapp surrendered its license, making the investigation unnecessary, Schmitt said.
