Giddy-Up for SLC Pride
Dust off your sneakers and saddle up — SLC Pride’s most fabulous and least strenuous race is back. On May 18, the SLC Pride .5K returns with a brand-new twist: Derby style. That’s right, the same short-and-sassy sprint you know and love is galloping in with a fresh dose of over-the-top flair, and hobby horses are strongly encouraged.
Whether you’re racing for fun, fashion, or just to be seen, this half-kilometer dash is more about camp than cardio. The .5K kicks off at Publik Coffee (975 S West Temple) at 9:30 AM with sign-in, “stretches,” and a strong cup of motivation. Then participants will trot, prance, and parade their way to the finish line at Club Try-Angles (251 Harvey Milk Blvd).
And the end of the race is only the beginning of the fun — every registration includes a limited-edition t-shirt and access to a buffet breakfast at the family-friendly after-party. Expect games, giveaways, and prizes. QSaltLake Magazine suggests Best Dressed, Best Hobby Horse Drag, and Most Dramatic Dismount.
This is more than a .5K — it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and queerness, all in support of SLC Pride’s mission to build joy and visibility in Salt Lake City’s LGBTQ+ community.
Ready to strut your stuff, hobby horse in hand? Register now at www.SLC-Pride.org on the Participate page. Giddy-up, Salt Lake — it’s time to race for pride!
